GETTING TO FREIBURG
Train

Freiburg, bordering two important French and Swiss cities, is very easily reached from most Northern and Central European cities. When searching for and booking train connections, please make sure to type 'Freiburg im Breisgau' as there are other towns with the name of Freiburg.
Plane
The closest airport to Freiburg is the Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Buses departing from the airport depart approximately every hour, arriving at the Freiburg Main Station (Hauptbahnhof). The cost for a return bus ticket is €35, and the travel time to Freiburg is approximately 50 min. Tickets can be purchased directly at the bus. Arrival at Frankfurt airport: The fastest way to get to Freiburg from Frankfurt Airport is by train. The long distance train terminal is located by Terminal 1, a 10 minute walk from the baggage claim. Direct trains to Freiburg leave hourly. Tickets may be purchased at the counter on the top floor of the train station. Otherwise, they can also be purchased directly in the train with payment of a small supplement. A second-class return ticket to and from Freiburg is around €124, and travelling time is 2h 10 min. You will find information on the German Railways schedules at: www.bahn.de.
From Zürich airport: The train connection is approximately 2 hours, leaving from the airport railway station. Make sure to ask for a train ticket for Freiburg im Breisgau/Germany as there is also a Freiburg (Fribourg) in Switzerland. There may be some train transfers necessary, either at Zürich main station or Basel SBB. Costs are about €80 for a return ticket.
Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport: It is reachable in less than 2 hours with public transport, a return ticket costs approximately €15.
TRANSPORT WITHIN THE CITY

Bus and Tram:
Every year, Freiburger Verkehrs-AG carries 67 million people on its five tram and 22 bus lines, which cover the city centre and its surroundings. Buses and trams are sustainable, quick and efficient modes of transport, with fares ranging from €2.10 for a single-ride ticket and €5.30 for a 24 hour ticket. Please note that during the conference days (27 and 28 October) participants will have free access to public transport (the ticket will be provided to all participats). Bicycles:
Cycling is by far one of the most popular means of transport for all ages, due to Freiburg’s bike-friendly infrastructure and short distances.
